Pre-Departure Checklist
Of course, every student who comes to Mountain View School Division MUST come with a positive attitude and an open mind! Here are some other things you need to consider before arrival:
Before you come you should:
- Purchase flight tickets for the pre-determined arrival date
- Make a connection with your homestay family
- Read the student orientation document
You need to bring:
In your carry-on bag
- Passport
- Visa and study permit (if applicable)
- MVSD Letter of Acceptance
- Canadian cash and credit/debit cards
- Medication for pre-existing conditions (a doctor's note or prescription translated into English is advised)
- Contact lenses/glasses (if applicable)
- A change of clothes, toothbrush and toothpaste (in case your luggage is delayed)
- Electronic devices and adapters (if applicable)
In your suitcase
- Shirts with long and short sleeves
- Socks and undergarments (thermal underwear for winter)
- Shorts, pants and jeans
- Bathing suit
- Jacket, raincoat (depending on the season) and a small umbrella
- Shoes
- Clothing and shoes for Physical Education class
- Pajamas
- Summer or winter hat
- Gloves (applicable for fall and winter)
- Towel
- Basic toiletries (most items such as soaps and shampoo can be purchased upon arrival)
- Whatever else you feel is important to bring with you (and will fit in your suitcase)

- Please note that Manitoba has 4 distinct seasons
- Some students choose to buy seasonal clothing after they have arrived in Canada
You don’t need to bring:
- School supplies (the ISP will prepare all your school supplies for you)
- Medical insurance (you will be covered with Guard Me Student Insurance)
